Camping & Forest Service Cabins: Sitka has several camping areas located on and off the island. Starrigavan Recreation Area, a multi-recreational complex offering camping, picnicking, hiking, bird and wildlife viewing opportunities, with freshwater and saltwater fishing nearby. Located 7 miles north of downtown at the end of Halibut Point Road, 3/4 mile from the Alaska Marine Highway Sitka Ferry Terminal. ADA accessible, open year round (vehicle access restrictions September 16-April 30). Fee charged, other amenities and information can be found at the U.S. Forest Service.
Sitka International Hostel, located near the corner of Lincoln and Jeff Davis Streets, the Sitka International Hostel is approximately 4 blocks from downtown. It features 23 beds in five single gender dorm rooms and one double room. Visitors should expect a traditional hosteling experience including: single gender shared bath facilities; communal kitchen and dining facilities; lights out (and outer doors locked) at 11:00pm; an environment free from smoking, drinking and drugs; and hosteler "chores" each day to help keep the facility clean while minimizing hostel operating expenses. Sealing Cove RV Parking operated by the City and Borough of Sitka is adjacent to Sealing Cove Boat Harbor, 7 miles south of the ferry terminal, & a short distance from downtown Sitka (at the beginning of Airport Road). Sitka Sportsman's Association RV Park, adjacent to the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry terminal at 5211 Halibut Point Road, located approximately 7 miles from downtown. Space for 16 RV's. Water & electrical hookups, showers & restrooms, an Indoor Shooting Range, a Trap & Skeet Range, & an Archery Range. Open year round.
